About the Carpenter Museum: The Carpenter Museum is Rehoboth’s local history museum. We are named in honor of major benefactors Elsie and E. Windsor Carpenter and are a subsidiary of the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society. Our mission is to:
- Collect, document, preserve, and share material culture related to the town’s nearly 375-year history.
- Connect the Rehoboth community with these artifacts and with local history in general through our exhibits and programming.
- Provide the wider community with research support, especially in the area of genealogy.
- Promote learning about American history through direct experience with objects from the past.
Goals & Duties: The Collections Intern will work closely with the Museum’s Director, Danielle DiGiacomo, to accession, process, and rehouse a large backlog of artifacts in our collections storage. The intern will receive field training from our director / collections specialist with 15 years of department experience. The intern will complete several projects and gain valuable hands-on experience with object handling, photography, artifact storage, proper labelling, PastPerfect Museum Software, and more. Capable interns will be given a chance to work independently to complete their own projects. Those interested will also be given the chance to spend a day shadowing our Museum Education Manager and/or our Research Manager as well as get a chance to attend Museum Board Meetings and lead a Collections Committee Meeting. These experiences cannot be had in a classroom.
Hours and Schedule: This is a 14 hours a week, 11 week internship for the summer of 2025, beginning June 3rd and concluding August 14th. Start and end dates have some flexibility. Workdays are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9AM-5PM with an unpaid lunch hour. The intern will complete 160 total hours and will receive a $2,720 total stipend paid in three installments.
Requirements: Applicants must have successfully completed two years in an undergraduate program with a core concentration in History, Public History, Museum Studies, Archival Studies, or a related field. Previous museum experience is preferred but not required. Must be comfortable working independently and confident in asking questions for clarity.

We Ask All Volunteers to:
- Attend a training session to learn about the Museum and Research Center’s protocols
- Enjoy working with people, young and old, as well as maintain professionalism, especially when working with the public
- Undergo a background check (CORI) if volunteering with our school groups
Types of Volunteering Opportunities:
- Regular Volunteers are needed for behind the scenes research and collections work. These volunteers usually have a special interest in genealogy or experience in handling archival materials and/or artifacts. We also welcome museum studies, archive management, and library sciences students who would like to get hands on experience in the field.
- Special Programs Volunteers are needed for our large annual events such as Strawberry Festival and Crafters’ Marketplace. We also need volunteers for evening and weekend programs throughout the year.
