We invite volunteers passionate about history, genealogy, and community programming to get involved!
Regular Volunteers.
Regular Volunteers are needed for behind the scenes research and collections work. These volunteers usually have a special interest in genealogy or experience in handling archival materials and/or artifacts or are willing to receive training. Volunteers work each week in our research room and collections storage.
We also welcome museum studies, archive management, and library sciences students who would like to get hands-on experience in the field.
Special Programs Volunteers.
Special Programs Volunteers are needed for our large annual events such as Strawberry Festival, Crafters’ Marketplace, and our 3rd grade field trips each spring. We also need volunteers for unique evening and weekend programs throughout the year.
Buildings and Grounds Volunteers are needed to help keep our landscaping beautiful. They do continuous work like pulling weeds, spreading mulch, smoothing out our drive, and keeping our shrubs and trees pruned. We also occasionally have larger projects that require volunteer assistance.
The Carpenter Museum and E. Otis Dyer Jr. Research Center welcomes volunteers who are interested in history, genealogy, and community programming. Donating your time is the best way to serve the Museum and Research Center.
We need people like you to help bring history to life! Whether you’re passionate about local history, interested in community programs, or just want to get your hands dirty contributing to our beautiful gardens and grounds, there’s a place for you here. Volunteering with us isn’t just rewarding, it’s also a lot of fun. You’ll have the chance to be part of unique events, while learning fascinating stories from the past.
We could not thrive without our volunteers. Every year dozens of volunteers help at events like the Strawberry Festival, our annual Crafters’ Marketplace fundraiser, or our school field trips. Others help make our collections more available to researchers by scanning photographs and documents so they can be accessed digitally. If you’ve got a love for history and a heart for your community, come join us at the Carpenter Museum. We can’t wait to welcome you!
Get Started.
We ask all volunteers to:
- Attend a training session to learn about the Museum and Research Center’s protocols
- Enjoy working with people, young and old, as well as maintain professionalism, especially when working with the public
- Undergo a background check (CORI) if volunteering with our school groups
